Episode 29 of Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy is now up at io9. In this episode we interview Orson Scott Card about his new novel The Lost Gate, and discuss theater, writing for Marvel, and Hollywood. Then stick around after the interview as John and I discuss wizards in fiction and games.

you know when you guys were talking about the methods of problems solving, even before you mentioned it i thought of the diplomatic method. You started with force as a fighters way, intelligence as the wizards way, and cunning as the rogues way and to stick with the role playing analogy diplomacy could be the way of the monk, but as you pointed out it could also be the seductress and the politician. the subtle difference between cunning and diplomacy its that cunning is essentially deception while diplomacy is a matter of perception. it looks like baloney when i write it out but it makes some kind of sense.
another thing that this made me think of, which correlated better in my head that it did when i actually looked it up, was a passage from Carlos Castenada’s book the power of silence, where Don Juan tests Carlos to see if he is “sweet or patient or ruthless or cunning” it almost matches up.
good day
