Episode 31 of Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy is now up at io9. In this show we interview Chris Roberson, award-winning science fiction novelist and publisher of Monkey Brain Books, who recently landed his dream gig of writing for the Superman monthly comic. Then stick around after the interview as John and I discuss upcoming superhero movies, superheroes in prose fiction, Marvel and DC trademarking the word “superhero,” and “porn face” in comics.

Next up: Pat Rothfuss?
:D
David Barr Kirtley says
He’s definitely someone we’re considering.
The Sword & Laser podcast actually just posted a good interview with him:

Daniel Abraham would be fantastic as well. He’ll have a new book out, soon. THE DRAGON’S PATH… but I’m sure you know that already.
David Barr Kirtley says
Yeah, I actually have a galley of The Dragon’s Path that the publisher sent me. We’re definitely planning to talk to Daniel Abraham, especially since it was just announced that he’s writing the Game of Thrones graphic novel, though nothing’s been scheduled yet.

i’m sorry, that Sword and Laser interview was almost unbearable.
David Barr Kirtley says
What did you dislike about it?
siznax says
the ass-kissing on both sides was over the top, and i’m sure the interviewers have read a lot of SF, but the fawning tone of the thing was just too much, too polished, too professional, like an awful morning talk show blasting from an alarm clock at full volume, duct-taped to the side of my head while my wrists are cuffed to my ankles. i mean, are these people real? am i being watched?! is this site hosted by the NSA?!
David Barr Kirtley says
Ha, well if you’re not into polished and professional, I can see why you’re a fan of our show. I also have mixed feelings about Sword & Laser. I’m sure by any reasonable standard the hosts have read a lot of sf, but I’m constantly frustrated by how much they get wrong or are uncertain of. I thought the Rothfuss interview wasn’t bad, but maybe I had lower expectations.

your show is polished and professional in another way. you guys seem like real people – genuine, curious, thoughtful. i really appreciate that, and it makes me feel like i can relate to you as fans and readers, and as humanoids. plus, your format (interview, then post-discussion) is way more coherent and entertaining.
